Saudi Arabia Gears Up for Historic Mohamed Salah Transfer

Published on: 2026-05-12 | Author: admin

According to media reports, clubs in the Saudi Pro League are increasingly confident in their ability to attract more global stars during the upcoming summer transfer window, thanks to a new funding model designed to support all 18 league clubs over the next four years.

As reported by Sky Sports, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, currently with Liverpool, has emerged as one of the top targets for Saudi clubs. This interest comes after Salah reportedly became available for a free transfer, despite his contract running until 2027, following an initial agreement with the English club.

This move follows a failed massive bid from Al-Ittihad worth around £150 million in the summer of 2023, which did not convince Liverpool to part with their key player at the time.

Omar Mugharbel, CEO of the Saudi Pro League, stated: “The question is no longer whether players will join the league, but who will be next?” This clearly reflects the league’s growing ambitions in the global transfer market.

Sources indicate that the Saudi football project continues to receive strong support, particularly as the nation prepares to host the 2034 World Cup. The new financial plan aims to distribute investments more evenly among clubs based on sporting performance and fan popularity.
