Ethiopian long-distance runner Yebrgual Melese, who placed second at the 2015 Chicago Marathon, has tragically passed away at the age of 36 after collapsing during a training session.
The Ethiopian Athletics Federation confirmed on Wednesday that Melese suddenly showed abnormal symptoms while training and was rushed to a hospital in Addis Ababa, the capital, where she later died.
Born in 1990, Melese won the Houston Marathon and the Prague Marathon in 2015, and made a name for herself by finishing as the runner-up at the Chicago Marathon that same year with a time of 2 hours 23 minutes and 43 seconds.
She was scheduled to compete in an upcoming race in Ottawa, Canada, later this month.
