Cesc Fàbregas has described the Champions League semi-final first leg between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich as the best game he has ever witnessed.
“I believe that was the finest match I have seen in my entire life,” said the Como head coach. “It showed me where modern football is heading.”
The thrilling encounter ended 5-4 in favor of PSG, and the Spanish tactician was far from alone in his admiration.
“This is the kind of game we dreamed of playing as children,” said PSG captain Marquinhos after the match. His coach, Luis Enrique, echoed similar sentiments: “Without a doubt, it was the best match I have ever coached. I have never witnessed such intensity and physical level. We must congratulate everyone. We deserved to win, to draw, and to lose. It was a fantastic contest.”
For Cesc, the spectacle offered a glimpse into the future of the sport. “If you are the coach of one of the two teams, you might not enjoy it as much, but as a spectator… I think I saw the best match of my life. It demonstrated where modern football is going. I saw very little team tactics, but rather individual brilliance. As a football fan, I loved it; it revealed the direction football is taking.”
The former Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Monaco star highlighted the intense one-on-one battles: “Pressure, duels… Olise turned his head fifty times to figure out what to do. I learned a huge amount from this game. It was a joy for everyone.”
While the PSG-Bayern thriller delighted most viewers, it proved less enjoyable for some—though Cesc was certainly not among them.
